Hizdudz Records - Responsibility

I think this was a milestone track for me in many ways.

I originally intended for it to be a Punk song, but it ended up being more of a mild rock song.

The rhythm guitar lick was strong from the beginning, the lyric and lead guitar then just fell into place.

The lyric is simple but effective, this is the first time I added a backing vocal and it worked out really well. This track is still a big favourite of mine.

Hizdudz Records - Vertigo

Still on the illness theme, Vertigo and migraines were knocking the hell out me, so this song was an obvious result.

Was really happy with the lyric and then I managed to get the lead guitar to represent the feeling I get when the Vertigo attacks occur, 'Feels like I'm going crazy' just about sums it up.

I set the electronic sax to violin mode, I think the sound and lick came out well.

At a time when I was feeling quite ill, this song just happened ! The wife had mentioned the Knackers Yard as an option.

'Keep taking the tablets' is a quote from the song that just about sums it up.

Drums, guitar an a whistle cover the compilation, a nice bit of fun.

Following many requests from the wife, I finally came up with a song that fit the bill.

I'd been practising the guitar solo for some time, it well suited something a bit slower, so the love song became the obvious choice.

At least the wife approves, so the job is done.

This song was my first full integration of the Bass, Guitar and Electronic Sax all in one song.

I was going for a Jazz Funk kind of feel.

The lyric is all about those players of the system that we all endure, no matter where we are. These guys know every trick in the book, getting away with the absolute minimum yet telling everyone how busy they are.

I like to think I got them in this track.

Hizdudz Records - No One

No One Gives a Damn ! I think it pretty much sums up society these days. I particularly liked my quote 'All those people are Vampires', it still makes me laugh.

I primarily wanted a strong drum and bass line, but obviously the new guitar ended up getting a place, I tried a few different effects within Studio One as well, couldn't help myself.

Hizdudz Records - Who Wants It

I really love this song. There were a couple of drivers to its creation.

First - I had just purchased my new Fender Stratocaster and was desperate for it to feature on the song. A nice subtle start to my solo guitar career !

Second - I loved the organ solo loop on Launchpad, it just had to feature.

The song is a nice combination of the two. I tried singing on the track but it was awful, so I went with the vocal instead, added some reverb and ended up being please with the whole effect.

The title had a lot to do with things at work, I was at war with a couple of now 'ex employees' (I credit myself with that success).

Hizdudz Records - Talk To Me

An early track of mine, one of the first where I used my Roland Electronic Saxophone / Synth to add a 'muted trumpet' lick to the melody.

The song is about a young guy that is getting bullied in the office, the invitation of Talk To Me gets him to come over and Talk ! A friendly ear.

Unfortunately, some peoples 'management style' means this happens way too often, the simple fact is they are not managers.

My favourite quote from the song is 'I can see the spirit, shining in your eye' . I think that sums it up, don't let them buggers get you down, keep at it and your day will come.

This song also has what I regard as one of my best bass lines in the last third of the song, a bit of thump and pluck that I really love.

Hizdudz Records - Funking Consequence

This song was written at a pretty turbulent time in my working career.

I styled the song after the late but great Johnny Guitar Watson, probably my most favourite funk brother of all time.

I was at war with my then CEO, another director and a commercial witch. I am very pleased to say that I played a big part in seeing them all off, thoroughly enjoying the victory and the party that followed.

This song replicates some of those issues, 'You cannot educate Pork, A Pigs a Pig, no matter what field its in' being a particularly good quote from the song. What goes around comes around ! Lets hope I taught them all a lesson in life, then again, a pigs a pig !

Hizdudz Records - Waiting For the Bus !

One of my first tracks and still a firm favourite.

The percussion came from LaunchPad, I wanted a haunting feeling so I doubled up on the bass line.

The lyric is all about waiting for the new boss, or, the new driver of the Bus !

I've always qualified management into three words, Appreciate, Motivate & Promote.

All you have to do is apply and complete these three things well, if you do that, you will fit the bill.

I always thought this song had a touch of Stone Roses in it's makeup ! or maybe that's just me !

Hizdudz Records - The Circle of Fifths

I'd spent many an hour putting together bass riffs that I loved, to then find it sounded awful with the rhythm and melodies that I had planned.

Then suddenly one day, during a YouTube movie about guitar techniques, the Circle of Fifths came into my life. Voila !

Keys, chord progressions, major this and minor that all came to one.

I talk to a lot of people about music and it's amazing how many don't even know of its existence.

So, for those who don't know, here it is, believe me, it's your future !

I haven't the skill to memorise the circle, but I've learnt how to move around the fret board instead. It makes improvisation so much easier, so please take time to learn the magic, trust me, it will be worth it.

Hizdudz Records - The Beginning !

1999 - I bought myself a Fender Jazz Bass - Sunburst - Mexican. I decided to fill an ambition and teach myself how to play. I was working away from home a lot of the time, so the guitar was a good way to pass some time on an evening.

2012 - I had worked in Shanghai for a couple of years, when I came back I wanted to see if we could get some cheap T shirts and underwear from China and turn them into a fashion brand. I needed a name, to this end I created the name Hizdudz - a play on 'His Duds'. I trademarked the name and created the web site, got the T shirts printed and ended up selling the majority on Ebay. A lot of work for very little return so we decided to shelve the idea.

2018 - After years of putting my own riffs together, I needed a platform where I could record the results. I bought Studio One, this gave me the DAW that I needed, so now it was time to learn how to use it. I also discovered LaunchPad, which was a great tool to give to give me some drumlines etc to build upon.

Once I started to save a few songs, I then decided to put them on You Tube. I needed a unique name to save the files, so Hizdudz became the perfect choice.

I then needed an Album cover, I took the above picture whilst working in Korea, a beautiful painting, so it became the perfect option.

The rest is history.
